Why The Shandur Polo Festival Is An Event Not To Be Missed For Anything


Gilgit Baltistan and Chitral one of the most beautiful places of Pakistan hold a polo festival every year called the Shandur polo festival. Created by the balti raja of Skardu; Ali Sher Khan Anchan who built the Shandur polo ground. The tournament is being held every year in the first week of July since 1936. Various teams of Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan participate in the competition, playing Polo on the highest polo ground in the world at 3,700 meters above sea level.
The festival also includes Folk music, dancing, and camping in villages.
The event is held to promote tourism in the country by attracting foreigners as well as people from all around Pakistan.




The Gilgit-Baltistan tourism minister Fida Khan took another step to enhance the tourism in Pakistan by inviting the teams of Afghanistan and Tajikistan to take part in the festival making it an international event.

The preparations for the three-day event are on full swing starting from the second week of June.
He said that they are trying to make the festival more colorful this year so that it would attract foreign national tourists.
The Shandur Polo Festival would be held in the Laspur valley's lash green pastures 10,000 feet above sea level located on the border of GB-KP.
The festival will be organized jointly by both governments because of the disputes they have over the area. 
20 new horses have been bought for the GB polo team, and the horses and teams are going through training sessions to be fully prepared for the tournament.

As the festival is going to be held in the second week of June, including more items purposed to make the event even more colorful this year.
This could actually make a positive impact on the tourism of Pakistan and people of the world will know how beautiful Pakistan really is.
