Cricket is loved wholeheartedly in Pakistan. It is a very
important part of people’s incentive despite the fact if you are a male or a
female young or old. This longing for cricket is carried from generations to
generations as some kind of bloodline. From street cricket to inter-school
crickets to international crickets people are do not only enjoy playing it,
they enjoy visualizing it as well. Cricket is like a heart of sports for Pakistanis.
But where do women of Pakistan stand in cricket when it comes to international
fields? Are they supported the same way if they are passionate about playing?
Do they have enough financial support? Is the PCB taking any serious take
towards this
Sana Mir who was the captain in 2013 explained in her interview that how hard it was for them to pursue cricket she told that “We were not provided financial assistance from the PCB and given that there weren’t too many international matches – we barely got the chance to play 3-4 games a year”. Back then the infrastructure was on a very rudimentary level . Girls were selected from a selective institution after being selected some used to back off due to their households not every girl could make it till the team even if she was talented. She would always suffer a pressure of society. Now as the time has passed and the hype for women cricket team has grown. People are now aware about the existence of women cricket team. Proper websites and pages are made for the support of the women cricket team. Bismah Masroof the current Captain of Pakistan’s Women Cricket team explains that there are still voids that need to be filled. They have the girls selected from different areas but not a proper coach to groom them. She says that there is a difference between the standards with other countries. They have proper facilities, proper grounds, proper coaches and most importantly strong incentives and motivation to pursue their career in Cricket. Pakistan has a wide pool of strong women who possess ardent motives towards cricket. By providing proper system and balancing the societal pressure women of Pakistan can outgrow their talent and have a very positive future towards cricket. PCB spends about Rs 227 million annually to develop and promote the game. PCB has also given contracts to not play internationally only but domestically as well. Proper fees are paid to the players, proper medical facilities are provided. Different departments are playing cricket domestically which includes Higher education commission, Pakistan education Board, Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited and state bank of Pakistan. PCB is encouraging more departments to join. Cricket in Pakistan for women is expanding slowly, but at least people have started to create a perception you know what they say “Better late than never”. Pakistan has yet to expand their dynamics in cricket for women. .
